Email marketing or a funnel builder?

A newsletter, a one-page website and a sales funnel solve different jobs. Start with the customer action you need, then see whether a free allowance actually covers it.

3 vendor optionsOfficial free-plan sourcesNo purchase necessary

Independent disclosure: only the explicitly marked systeme.io referral link on this page is an affiliate link. Askoure Systems may earn a commission from a qualifying paid purchase at no added cost to you. MailerLite and Carrd links here are ordinary, non-affiliate vendor links. We have not run a paid conversion comparison.

Choose the job before choosing the tool

Email-first: choose a newsletter tool when readers voluntarily subscribe for recurring articles, updates, or product news. The essential test is whether a subscriber can opt in, receive your first email and unsubscribe safely.

Lead-first: choose a landing-page or funnel tool when a customer should request a quote, download a promised checklist or sign up for one specific service. The essential test is the entire path from page to form, confirmation and delivery.

Information-first: choose a simple website when people just need opening hours, a portfolio, your services or a reliable contact method. A multi-step funnel can add cost and failure points without solving a real problem.

What the free plans actually allow

These are vendor-published limits, checked 28 October 2026, not performance benchmarks. Limits, local currency and eligibility can change. Always consult the linked current plan before committing.

MailerLite updated its Free plan on 16 June 2026: among other changes, its subscriber and monthly sending allowances were reduced, while additional editing features were introduced. Carrd's custom domains and integrated contact forms are paid Pro features, so its free sites are not a direct substitute for an opt-in funnel. A form provider may also impose its own usage limits.

Three practical cases

01

Independent designer: one quote request

Write an offer page showing the services, likely scope and next step. Test a real form submission and your response. A free funnel allowance may be more than enough; a newsletter subscription is optional rather than the first purchase.

02

Newsletter creator: consistent updates

If the real deliverable is a weekly email, confirm permission, deliverability, cancellation and how your list is counted. MailerLite's published free allowance may suit a small new list, but its 250-active-subscriber ceiling matters before you plan growth.

03

Local service: visitors want your contact details

Start with a clear mobile-friendly contact page; don't create email automation merely because a vendor offers it. If you later promise a checklist or run multiple opt-in campaigns, reassess whether an integrated funnel is useful.

A seven-step, no-spend validation test

  1. Write the one action the visitor should take. Do not call “more traffic” a customer outcome.
  2. Publish one page with an accurate promise, clear business identity and a visible next step.
  3. Check the mobile layout, readable text, link targets and primary button.
  4. Where there is a form, submit with an email address you control; never test using a stranger's contact.
  5. Verify the saved record, confirmation and actual delivery of the promised resource or follow-up.
  6. Separate impressions, website visits, link clicks, valid opt-ins and paid customers.
  7. Upgrade only when a verified feature or capacity limit blocks an actual business requirement.

Need one opt-in or lead funnel?

Need recurring newsletter emails? Compare MailerLite's official plans ↗ (ordinary vendor link, not our affiliate program).

Need a simple portfolio or informational page? Review Carrd ↗ (ordinary vendor link; free sites do not include every Pro form feature).

Still uncertain? Try the independent four-question tool finder ↗. Some outcomes recommend buying nothing.

Not sure which free tool fits your next step?

If you're choosing between a newsletter, a landing page and a client enquiry funnel, you can send Askoure Systems one specific setup question in writing. Tell us your goal and your current software, if any. No call, sales appointment, account or software purchase is required to ask.

Ask a practical question by email ↗

Contact: partners@askouresystems.com. Your message goes to our receiving-only business mailbox. Please do not send passwords, customer records or payment information. Sending one question does not subscribe you to marketing emails. An email click does not mean a message was sent or a sale was made.
